Kaiser DT Call Out

Hi everyone,

As most of you know, Kaisercraft is my favourite scrapbooking company and all my projects are predominately kaiser. The are currently having their design team call out for 2011-2012 and I am in two minds whether or not to apply. I figured I may as well as there is nothing to lose!

I'm only a relatively new scrapper, but I am keen for any opportunities that may arise which is why I am giving it a go!

I haven't done much BTP lately so I'm not going to showcase anything. I'm currently in the midst of a Bubblegum Hills canvas for my sister and some Nan's Favourite kitchen cubes for my Mum so I wish I had finished them in time for this application.

Here are my eight items, hopefully worthy of a DT application. I've linked up all my items to their original post so you can see some more detail and materials lists.

First off, a thank you card using Le Chateau:

And now onto the layouts:
Adore using After Five:

Happy Family using Be Merry:

Happiness using English Rose:

Summer Fun  using Seaside:

Paradise  using Pina Colada:

Smile using Bubblegum Hills:

Valentine's Day Roses using Argentella:

Imagine using Love Notes:

Mother using Chanteuse:

That's it, thanks for looking at my application

So Excited....!!!!

My older brother finally moved out which means I get to take over his room with my scrapbooking stuff!!!! Well, not his entire room (it is fairly large) but I will at least be out of my bedroom which is a start! I'm excited about having a space for scrapbooking, as well as getting my bedroom back!

When he moved out he left his old desk behind so for now I'll be using that. It's not ridiculously huge and it's a bit of a downsize from my desk at the moment, but maybe I'll make less mess if I have less room to pull out a trillion and one supplies.

I have long been envious of scrapbooking storage using the IKEA Expedit bookcases. I've been scouring google images and have found loads of inspiring storage spaces that I'll share with you (keep in mind, my final product will look nothing like these!)

The expedit bookcase, so neat and organised, yet with lovely splashes of colour throughout:

Who wouldn't love to have this much paper, and all those albums... to die for! I have read that the cropper hopper systems do not fit into the expedit shelving and people have to trim them.
This one is a smaller bookcase, but I love how they have included cupboards and drawers as well as open spaces.

And what's not to like about this one... not only is there a huge bookcase of storage but there is also paper shelving on the right hand side and drawers and embellies on the left... so much stuff!!

And check out all the little jars of goodies in this one!

Just gorgeous right! Now, my space isn't nearly big enough (nor can I justify the amount of money needed) for an IKEA expedit, so I went to my local Cheap as Chips yesterday and found a cheaper version of the Expedit. And the thing I'm most happy with... my cropper hoppers will fit in the shelves (unlike with the Expedit!). Well, at least, I hope it does. That's going on my measurements, so let's hope I'm right.

Now I'm off to convince my Dad to come with me and get this bookcase so he can build it for me so I can start organising my new space!!!

Keep checking back in as I will be updating my blog with before/during/after pics frequently (if I don't get too carried away and forget to take pics that is!).

Thanks for looking :)

Happy Family

I have a Christmas LO to share with you today, using Kaiser's Be Merry collection and a sketch from Scrap with V:

And my LO, using a pic of the extended family at Christmas 2010:

Materials used: Kaisercraft Be Merry collection: papers, journal tag, black rub ons; kaisercraft pearl flourish: classic (pearl); kaisercraft wooden flourish: christmas tree; kaisercraft mini alpha stickers: cherry red; american crafts thickers: subway (red); prima flowers; LimeTree Creations water distressed flower; Joyful Blooms white satin flower; Lil Red Rocket button; stickles: icicle; leaves.

I slipped a journal tag underneath the photo and have written the names of everyone in the photo underneath. Added a quote as part of my title as well as I felt it suited the photo brilliantly.

And lots of close ups for this one:

Happiness

Another LO for my 21st album, this time, one of me using Kaiser's English Rose collection. I really love how this one turned out turned out. I used the April sketch for Stuff 2 Scrap. I hope using chipboard wasn't a requirement because I haven't used any!

I rotated the sketch so I could use a portrait photo but I'm sure you can still see the sketch in my LO:

Materials used: Kaisercraft English Rose collection: papers; kaiser rhinestone flourish: elegant (champagne); kaiser rub ons: inner self; prima flowers; skeleton leaves; american crafts thickers: hat box (white); LimeTree Creations doiley plus distressed flower; cardstock.

I ran out of a double sided tape halfway through this LO so had to duck down to my LSS to pick some up. While there, of course I didn't just buy the tape! I found these gorgeous prima flowers (the roses) and just had to have them! And I also grabbed some skeleton leaves while I was there as I have been wanting to play with those for a while.
Some close ups:

I got Photoshop CS5 the other day so have been playing around a bit and decided to try the effect of having a blue dress with the rest of the photo in greyscale. I quite like it, it's muted down the photo quite a bit with still having a touch of colour.

Sorry about the horrible photos, it is so overcast here! I'll have to work on my photo taking technique before winter well and truly kicks in!

Thanks for looking :)

One more day in paradise

Another LO done... my bedroom is a complete mess! I'll add a photo to the bottom of this post!

This week's challenges at Scrapz.biz are up and I jumped straight onto Kerryn's SIB challenge. I am absolutely loving these scrap it blind challenges, the best part is seeing what everyone comes up with at the end of the week! An additional challenge to fit with the search theme was to "search" through your photos to find a non-people photo! I took the opportunity to scrap yet another Fiji LO, once again using the pina colada collection from Kaiser.

Materials used: Kaisercraft Pina Colada collection: papers; kaisercraft pearl flourish: island lagoon; black cardstock; prima flowers; leaves; american crafts thickers: giggles (blue) and sunny (white); yoyo flowers (from Vicki) and buttons (from Purple Pumpkin)

I adapted the instructions a little bit and matted the papers onto cardstock instead of inking the edges. I also forgot to round the corners! And now that I've just re read the instructions, I forgot the two decorative strips! Ooops! I didn't have much journaling to write with this LO so although I have added quite a big journaling area, I covered most of it with the embellies and title and then just wrote a little bit.

I love my embellishment clusters on this LO, here are some close ups:

Oh and I better not forget to leave you with a idea of how my scrap area looks right now. This is the result of me doing 4 LOs in 12 hours!

Hrmm... this mess will no longer be allowed to happen once I move my scrapbooking stuff into my brother's old bedroom! It will have to be kept organised or else my Dad will probably throw it all out!

Thanks for looking. I'll hopefully get some more scrapbooking done tomorrow and Saturday morning to finish off some April challenges :)

Cupcakes

Third challenge done for SBT50, this time it's Vicki's challenge. Vicki let us "pick" our own criteria for this challenge... in a sense. We all picked 4 pictures of some sweetness and a few days later, Vicki revealed what each picture meant. I ended up with the following criteria:

Black background
Lots of layers
Doiley/Lace
Something metallic

Not sure how well you'll think I stuck to my critera - I was a bit adventurous and bent the rules ;)

My LO - using Kaisercraft's Le Chateau collection:

Materials used: Kaisercraft Le Chateau collection: papers, paper pad, die cut elements; black cardstock; white cardstock; mesh; twine; doiley; flowers; bottlecap.

The two flowers are two from Joyful Blooms; the black doiley is one of Becci's and the bottlecap was made by Vicki over at Burdy's Handmade Embellies.

A close up of those gorgeous handmade goodies:

I will post better photos in the daytime. Thanks for looking!

Sweet Simple Things

Another SBT50 challenge, this time Ant provided us with the following quote to use on our LO:

It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.

I had seen this quote before and I loved it, so I was glad for the reminder! Other criteria was to include an insect embellishment and buttons. Here is my LO, using Kaisercraft's Lush collection:

Materials: Kaisercraft Lush collection: papers, paper pad, printed chipboard, black rub ons; kaisercraft mini and tiny alpha stickers: black; american crafts thickers: hat box (black); prima felt stems (cream); twine; butterfly.

The butterfly I have on my LO is one of Joy's. You can see more of her embellishments and cards at her blog.

Ice Cream Baby

This month's cyber crop is all about Sweet Treats and although I've left it until the last minute (I blame placement + Easter preperations) I am trying to get a couple of the challenges done tonight. Luckily, the Easter Bunny came and granted everyone and extension until tonight!

For Sue's challenge, you needed to incorporate something sweet in the photo/s  as well as a sweet embellishment. I was super happy when I came home this afternoon to find the mailman and left me 4 packages of goodies - three being craft market goodies!! I tore them open and was thrilled to find the ice cream buttons I had ordered from Sue (Lovelybug Bits and Bobs) which would suit my LO plan perfectly!

I have been looking through photos from my childhood lately and when I saw the criteria for this LO, I immediately thought of photos of me as a baby eating an ice cream cone (well, making a mess anyway). Here's my LO, using the new Kaisercraft Bubblegum Hills collection:

Materials used: Kaisercraft Bubblegum Hills collection: papers (tropical twist, orange pop, apple spritz), paper pad, die cut elements, journal tag; american crafts thickers: daiquiri (pink) and sunny (white glitter); crochet doily; fabric buttons; fabric flower; paper doiley.

The fabric buttons (ice cream, green check and pink check are all from Sue of Lovelybug Bits and Bobs. The white crochet doiley underneath the green button is one of Becci's of Lime Tree Creations. And the green rose is from the small roses pack made by Krissy Christie for Wicked Princesses - My Vintage Blossoms. And the paper doiley sticking out underneath the bottom photo was just one from my stash.

Haven't added my journaling yet as I need to confirm the date, but I think I'm just over 1 year old. The journaling will go on the pink butterfly die cut.

Some close ups:

Sorry about the bad photos, it's nighttime, I'm take some better ones and upload them tomorrow. Also, the photos look like they are lifting from the page and that's because they are. These are the originals so I need to print copies tomorrow hopefully and stick them on the LO. Didn't have a chance to go to the shops today because I'm sick :(

Thanks for looking!

Thank You Card

I made a thank you card for the staff here at the hospital where I and another student have been on placement for the last two months. I used Kaiser's Le Chateau collection and I am really happy with how this one turned out.

Georgia Keays from Scrapz.Biz has introduced me to the art of matting patterned paper onto cardstock before attaching to a LO. You can see Georgia's example of this technique here. Georgia challenged us to use this technique in a Scrap it Blind challenge over at Scrapz.Biz a couple of weeks ago and you can see my final product here.

The point of this rambling is that I decided I really like this effect and wanted to try it on a smaller scale with a card. Here is my final product:

Materials used: Kaisercraft Le Chateau collection: paper pad, die cut elements; kaisercraft decorative pearls: black; kaisercraft flower: cream; kaisercraft pearl brad: pearl; kaisercraft rub ons: friends; kaisercraft lace pack: natural; black cardstock.

And a little close up:

Although this technique takes a little bit longer than just sticking the papers on, I think it really makes the card "pop" that little bit more. I have a feeling I'll be using this technique a lot more of both layouts and cards!

Thanks for looking!

Worth It

I've got a very simple LO here to share with you today. It's simple for two reasons... the first being I wanted to keep the focus on the photo and my journaling. The second reason being I didn't bring many embellies up with me this week so might have to add to it when I go home.

I am entering this LO in the inaugural Once Upon A... Sketch challenge. Criteria is to use the below sketch and 25+ words of handwritten journaling. Here's the sketch:

I have used Kaisercraft's La Di Da collection for this LO:

Materials used: Kaisercraft La Di Da collection: papers, paper pad; American Crafts thickers.

As I said... a very simple LO. Here's a close up of my journaling:

Just in case you can't read it:

Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy. They just promised it would be worth it.
